The proposed pricing structure would bring the parks into closer alignment with nearby and comparable campground and boating services. Hikers, try the 1.5 mile (2.4) Neversink Trail, which meanders along the Gunnison River upstream of Blue Mesa Reservoir. ![]() Stand up paddleboarding, fishing, canoeing and other water sports are popular here.īird Watching is rewarding throughout the park but especially so in this shallower end of the reservoir which is ideal for waterfowl. Mountain biking and hiking can be found at Hartman Rocks Trail just south of Gunnison. Gunnison is known for its western ambiance and small town friendliness. Head into Gunnison for a meal, a bit of shopping, or a visit to the local park or museum. The mesa landscape is covered with sagebrush and receives less than 12 inches (30 cm) of rain each year. Dispose of unwanted bait, worms, fish parts, or other organisms into the trash and not into the environment. CLEAN, DRAIN, DRY boats and any other recreational equipment that contacts water. Stay on designated roads and trails, and follow local guidelines for firewood. Clean your gear before entering and leaving the recreation site. Remove plants, seeds, animals, and mud from boots, gear, pets, and vehicles. The fish cleaning station is open during peak seasons. Inspection stations are located at the Elk Creek and Lake Fork boat ramps during peak seasons (May through October). Upon arrival to the boat ramp and before launching, all watercraft will be inspected and certified Zebra and Quagga Mussel free. Stevens Creek Campground has no electric hookups. The 53-site campground offers waterfront-sites and a wide variety of amenities including a picnic area, self pay station and drinking water available late-May to mid-September. A bit downstream is the Morrow Point Reservoir and the Crystal Reservoir, both surrounded by the steep cliffs of the Black Canyon. It is very sunny and bright, and the scent of sagebrush adds to the camping experience. Popular with boaters, Stevens Creek has easy access to the reservoir. This is the closest campground to the town of Gunnison, CO. Stevens Creek Campground lies on the north shore at the eastern end of Blue Mesa Reservoir.
